Sakari Heikka is a Finnish musician, composer, and music pedagogue. In 2023 Sakari graduated from the Royal College of Music, Stockholm with a Master’s Degree in Music Performance specializing in Shakuhachi and composition. He has studied Shakuhachi with Gunnar Jinmei Linder and Mizuno Kohmei (Kinko-ryū), Riley Lee (Contemporary Shakuhachi Music), Akihito Obama (Minyo and improvisation), and Akiko Fujimoto (Jiuta and Sōkyoku).
Sakari released his first solo album, Sketches of Time and Timbre, in 2024, which contains his compositions for the Shakuhachi. He has a background in classical music (graduated from Sibelius Academy,
Helsinki in 2005) and he has played viola in top symphony orchestras and chamber music ensembles in Finland.
Sakari advocates music as a tool for building bridges between people and promoting well-being. He leads a community music project in Espoo, Finland, where people from all walks of life and different cultural backgrounds can join to play music in communal music groups, which are free of charge.
