Friendship Inn

The 2024 Summer School will take place at the Friendship Inn, located in Kruusila, Finland.

The Friendship Inn offers a unique combination of accommodation, meals, workshop and event spaces, and is located in beautiful surroundings in the Finnish nature, within easy reach of both Helsinki and Turku.

Room accommodation

  • There are mainly two-person rooms with a mixture of double beds, twin beds and bunk beds.
  • There are some 3-4 people rooms with a similar mixture of beds too.
  • Some of the rooms have their own toilet facility. For rooms without, there are shared facilities. Two shower rooms are also located in communal spaces where the rooms are located and there is one further shower room with two showers in the sauna building.

We ask you to take into account that the rooms have no locks. In the history of the Inn there has not been locks in the rooms and it has never caused problems, but we wanted to mention in advance so you know it. The reception is locked if someone wants to leave nevertheless something there for safekeeping. 


On the online registration form you will have the option to indicate your preferences in terms being in a male, female or mixed room or if you travel as a couple your wish to occupy a double room. We will aim to fulfill the request as much as possible but cannot guarantee, in particular if we are reaching full capacity of registrations.

Camping

  • Update June 2024: Please note there are no more official camping spots available. We also reached official capacity for camper vans on the ground of the venue.
  • If you are interested in camping on the grounds of the Friendship Inn, it is possible but there are limited spaces available. Please contact us directly at info@shakuhachisociety.eu to make sure we still have spaces before booking.
  • You can also book a 4-day meal package through the ESS for the days of your camping stay (see registration form).
  • There is the possibility to use the Inn’s kitchen facilities in the main building, if the kitchen is not in use by the FriendshipInn staff. There is also a communal fridge you can use.
  • Campers should bring their own tent and camping gear.
  • You can use the toilets in the main building downstairs and the showers in the sauna building.

Other Accommodation Options

The nearest town is Salo where there is some Hotel and airbnb accommodation. One of the evening concerts will also be held in Salo. We are looking into organising a pick-up/drop off car service from Salo to the venue.

Salo is ca. 20 km away from our venue. We are looking into organising a morning pick-up and evening drop off option (tbc).
There are also some public transport bus routes from Turku and Helsinki to Kruusila. (see Transport Information Pack below).

Taxis are available but can be pricey.

Transport

Kruusila is located halfway between Helsinki and Turku. It is 1,5 hours from Helsinki and a little bit less from Turku.The nearest bus stop is Kruusila L and from there it is about 10 minutes walk (750 meters) to the venue. You can arrive to Kruusila by bus or car. If you want, you can also try hitchhiking or car-sharing, there is a well-established car-sharing culture in Finland and in websites like Kyydit.net you can create a request and others can contact you if they are travelling that way.

From Helsinki Vantaa Airport

Long distance bus connections to Kruusila run six times on weekdays and there are 1-2 bus exchanges. Take the bus line that goes to Salo/Turku operated by J. Vainion Liikenne Oy. Timetables, routes and prices can be accessed here.

Prices range between 23-27€, takes about 2-3 hours depending on connections.

From Helsinki City Centre

Helsinki has an international port and you can travel to Helsinki by boat from Tallinn (Estonia), Stockholm (Sweden), Mariehamn (Åland Islands) or Travemunde (DE). Please note that train and bus connections to St. Petersburg (Russia) have been suspended indefinitely because of the war with Ukraine.

Once in Helsinki, you need to take a bus from Helsinki Bus Station (Kamppi) which is about a 10 minutes walk from the Helsinki Central Railway Station.

Take a bus line going to Salo/Turku operated by J. Vainion Liikenne Oy. Timetables, routes and prices can be accessed here. Prices range between 15-25€, travel takes 1.5h-3h depending on connections.

From Turku City Centre

Turku operates an international port and you can arrive by boat to Turku from Stockholm. From there, there are bus connections from Turku bus station to Kruusila which run three times every day, but only on weekdays.

Take a bus line going to Salo/Helsinki operated by J. Vainion Liikenne Oy. Timetables, routes and prices can be accessed here.

Ticket price is 15€ and the journey to Kruusila I bus station takes 1h15m-2h depending on connections.
