Aaro Haavisto is a teacher of Ueda-ryu shakuhachi a flute maker and Japanese interpreter based on Finland. Originally a baroque lute player, Aaro first got introduced to European flutes of the same era by becoming a disciple of a Japanese flute maker during living in Japan.

Through European flutes, a chance encounter introducing him to shakuhachi started a life long passion and journey of learning both performance and construction of the instrument. Originally studied under Toshio Mikami, and currently studying under Yasunori Tani, and actively teaching in Finland having attained teaching license in Ueda-ryu.

Aaro also works as a musical instrument constructor and a repairman, concentrating on various Japanese instruments as well as European flutes.
